Social Studies in English C


Social Studies English C 2009/10 Anne Voulund.

Aims:
To create successful learners who enjoy learning and making progress.
To develop confident individuals who are able to live healthy lives.
To create responsible citizens.

Method:
Social studies topics are combined units covering geography, history , English and art. This is part one of a two year program.

Our World:
This topic will continue throughout the year:
Learning objective to locate places and environments.
To study the area of Denmark where we will be on school camp, investigating the route to get there and recording this on a map. We will describe where in the world places are, to investigate places on a range of scales and to find out how places are connected.
Investigating our local environment, looking for ways to improve it, a study of local traffic and map work.

What is in the news? A look at what is happening around the world here and now.

Water, water everywhere.
To develop the children’s knowledge and understanding of water and its supply as well as investigating the scientific properties of water.

Australia.
A study of the landscape, geographical features and climate zones. To look at an environment under threat and how it is being protected.. To help children understand the historical background to the racial tensions that exist today in modern Australia. To find out about exploration and Captain Cook.
and the first fleet. To investigate how Aboriginal people express their culture and beliefs through art

Denmark in the 1950s.
A study of how life has changed since the 1950s. To look at how people lived in Copenhagen in the 50s, family size, type of work and living conditions. To investigate music, art, fashion and leisure activities of the time. To create a timeline of events from the end of the second world war. To carry out historical enquiries from a variety of sources.

Biographies.
To learn about famous people and important events and developments of recent times.
