Aims:
To use sketchbooks as everyday tools for recording ideas and observations.
To make more sensitive and informed choices of materials to the task.
To develop sensitivity, skill and understanding when mixing paint colours.
To extend drawings and sketches with other materials in order to show elements e.g.: feelings, patterns, colours etc.
To look at art of both present and past artists, to draw conclusions and make predictions.
To reflect upon one’s own work and discuss intentions and necessary modifications.
To record from direct observation and personal experience.
To develop an ability to identify and solve problems in a visual and tactile form.
To develop an imaginative, creative and intuitive response.
To develop growing independence in the refinement and development of ideas and personal outcomes.
Knowledge of a working vocabulary relevant to the subject.
Method:
The following projects will be covered during the year.
The Art of lettering.
Name project.
War and Peace.
Study of two words. Using different languages and typefaces to illustrate the meaning of these words. Personal response to the words in English creating a visual illustration of the meanings and finally create an abstract pattern using the letters from each of the words.
Pattern in design.
Study drawings of both man-made and natural objects, create a motif from these to use as a single colour print. Collect examples of fabrics, wrapping paper and wallpaper that feature repeat patterns. Identify the motif. Produce a design including a repeated motif that could be used as wallpaper.
Movement.
Research the work of the Italian Futurists in the beginning of the 20th. century, discover how they represented the feeling of speed in a new age of inventions.
Complete experimental drawings using lines and use photography to make fragmented images. Produce a painting conveying some form of movement.
Logo Design.
Design and make a bag as a form of advertising for a shop. Include a printed logo on the bag that reflects the product sold in the shop.
Music and musical instruments.
Research Cubist collages of Picasso, Brague, Leger and Gris.

November- Exam preparation, Mock exam 1 Observational study or interpretation.
2-3 weeks will be spent finding inspiration and preparing sketches and ideas for the 8 hour exam.
February- Exam preparation, 2nd. mock exam –Design paper. 2-3 weeks will be spent in preparation for this new 8 hour exam.
April- Exam preparation for I.G.C.S.E. Art and Design papers 1 and 2.Exams at the end of April.
